THE PROGRAM

Ford Motor Company has established a competitive scholarship program to assist UAW-Ford employees' children or spouses who plan to continue education in college or vocational school programs. Six renewable scholarships are offered each year for full- time study at an accredited institution of the student's choice.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services®, a division of Scholarship America®. Scholarship Management Services is the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin.


ELIGIBILITY
Applicants to the UAW-Ford Rouge Powerhouse Memorial Scholarship Fund Program must be -
  • Dependents* or spouses of full-time UAW-Ford employees who have a minimum of 90 days of employment with the company as of the deadline date.

    *Dependents are defined as persons who qualify as federal tax exemptions to the employee.
  • High school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll for the first time in a full-time (12 credit hours) undergraduate course of study at an accredited two- or four-year college, university, or vocational- technical school. Applicants must have a minimum 2.5 GPA (4.0 scale) for their last three semesters in high school prior to application.
AWARDS

Awards of $2,000 each will be granted. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years or until a bachelor's degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance (maintaining a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by Ford Motor Company. First renewal award will be up to $2,500. Second renewal award will be up to $3,000. The third renewal award will be up to $3,500. Awards may be used for tuition, fees, books, and supplies only.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

APPLICATION

Interested students must complete the application and mail it along with a current, complete transcript of grades to Scholarship Management Services postmarked no later than June 1. Grade reports are not acceptable.

Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by Scholarship Management Services.

SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS

Scholarship recipients are selected with an emphasis on community involvement. Also considered are the applicant's academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school activities, honors, work experience, goals and aspirations stated in the application, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Financial need is not considered.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship Management Services. In no instance does any officer or employee of the UAW or Ford Motor Company play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Applicants will be notified by late July. The majority of applicants to the program will not be selected as recipients.

PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS

Scholarship Management Services processes UAW-Ford Rouge Powerhouse Memorial scholarship payments on behalf of the Ford Motor Company. Payments are made in equal installments on August 15 and December 30. Checks are mailed to each recipient's home address and are made payable to the school for the student.

OBLIGATIONS

Recipients have no obligation to the Ford Motor Company. They are, however, required to notify Scholarship Management Services of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information and to send a complete transcript when requested.

REVISIONS

The Ford Motor Company reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.

The UAW-Ford Rouge Powerhouse Memorial Scholarship Fund is dedicated to the memory and spirit of six brave men who died on February 1, 1999 in a tragic explosion in the Powerhouse at the Ford Rouge Manufacturing Complex in Dearborn, Michigan. That their commitment and sacrifice to family and community may be remembered, and their aspirations continued for future generations, this scholarship program has been established in their honor.
